Parking at James Madison University

James Madison University has provided us with 300 event visitor permits for our attendees, valid from Wednesday, September 18 at 7am until Saturday, September 21 at 10pm. These permits will enable you to park, free of charge, in all standard spaces on campus. To access the information required to obtain these permits, visit the password protected “Travel & Lodging” page.

Accessibility

We have secured a single golf cart to assist with travel from building to building on East Campus for those that need it. Please note that there is only one golf cart and space will be limited, so reserve this accommodation for those that need it most.

Conference Hotels

We have worked with several hotels located close to James Madison University (where the conference is held) to offer discounted rates for our attendees. As space is limited, we have reserved this information exclusively for registered attendees. Upon registering for Furious Flower IV: Celebrating the Worlds of Black Poetry via Submittable, you will receive the password and link to our “Travel & Lodging” page in your confirmation email. You can also access this page in the menu at the top of the screen, but you will always need the password.

Frequently Asked Questions

I keep getting a message to verify my email; how do I register?
In order to register, you’ll need to create a free Submittable account which will then require you to verify your email before you can submit your registration. This is to ensure you will receive your confirmation email. Please check your Junk Email folder or Spam folder if you don’t receive the verification email in a timely manner.

If I register as a student, will I still be listed as a presenter/performer?
Yes, all students should register as students as it is the lowest rate available to them. Registering as a student will not affect your status as presenter or performer.

Can I buy more than one day pass?
Yes, you can purchase more than one day pass. If you are only planning on attending for two days and you are not a student or affiliated with JMU, this is the lowest rate available to you. Please note that purchasing all three exceeds the cost of the full access Attendee pass.

I’m a graduate student; can I get the student rate?
Yes, graduate students are eligible for the discounted student rate of $100.

Where do I find information on travel and lodging options?
When you successfully completed registration, you should have received a confirmation email. In this email, there is a link to the password protected page containing this information along with the password to access it. This is password protected to ensure our conference attendees get exclusive access to the discounted rates we have secured.

Where exactly will the conference be taking place?
The majority of conference activities will be held at the Festival Student and Conference Center on East Campus at JMU. The address is 1301 Carrier Dr, Harrisonburg, VA 22807

Will there be parking available?
Yes.

When will the conference schedule be available?
A skeleton schedule is available above.

I didn’t receive a confirmation email or hotel information when I registered. Where can I find that?
You should receive two registration confirmations: one will be a payment confirmation from Submittable itself and the other is a confirmation message from Furious Flower within Submittable itself that contains the link and password to access our information for attending the conference. If you did not receive these, please check your junk and/or spam folders and look within submittable itself. The link to this page is also available in the menu at the top of this site (“Attending Furious Flower IV”), but it is password protected to ensure only our attendees and participants have access to our discounted rates and reserved rooms.

How do I sell my books at Furious Flower IV?
Furious Flower Poetry Center is not permitted to sell books. The JMU Bookstore will be handling both the procurement and the sales of books at the conference. We have provided them with a list of our Lifetime Achievement Award recipients, Featured Poets, participants, and attendees who have published books that are available to the bookstore.

How do I get the discounted rates at the hotels?
On the password protected page where our special hotel rates are located, you’ll find directions alongside hotels that require you to call for the rate. If there are no directions and the hotel name appears in red, use the link hyperlinked to the name of the hotel to reserve your room at the discounted rate.
